On November 22nd Wednesday Night, The FBI is investigating the car crash and explosion that occurred at the Rainbow Bridge earlier today.
Official word – Rainbow Bridge crash
After investigation, FBI Buffalo concluded that the incident did not reveal any explosive material and no terrorism nexus was identified.
Agency conclusions did match with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul statement on Wednesday evening at the press conference when she told the media that there was no evidence that the crash at the U.S. side of the Rainbow bridge, which connects the U.S. to Canada at the Niagara Falls, New York was a terrorist attack.
Rainbow Bridge crash – not a terror Act
Hochul confirmed that there was no evidence of explosives at the scene.
Earlier on Wednesday, a vehicle picked up speed towards a border checkpoint booth on the U.S. side of the Rainbow Bridge, hit the booth, exploded and was airborne. It looked so surreal – Hochul explained.
In this incident, the driver and co-passenger were killed, according to the governor. One booth agent was injured and was treated for injuries at a hospital, later that day was released.
This happened in a very congested area, which would have been even worse – Hochul said.
“The investigation would take some time as the debris is spread over 13 booths” – she added.
Rainbow Bridge crash – What’s next?
U.S. Sec. of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas did post a statement on X stating that the incident did not appear to be a terror – related & would be closely coordinating with the local police.
The Peace, Queenston-Lewiston and Whirlpool-Rapids Bridges in Canada reopened to traffic in both directions later in the evening.
Buffalo Niagara International Airport said it would increase security with car checks and additional screenings for travelers.
The White House claimed as events developed that President Joe Biden was briefed on the explosion.
The Canadian parliament was told by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday afternoon that the event was being investigated by the police.
